‘Karma Caught Ross (Chastain)’: NASCAR fans hail Chase Elliott as surprise hero of Avenging Kyle Busch spin-off

‘Karma Caught Ross (Chastain)’: NASCAR fans hail Chase Elliott as surprise hero of Avenging Kyle Busch spin-off

Of course, Kyle Busch was far from fighting for the W during this last round in Sonoma. But a top 5 wouldn’t have hurt at all, especially after an unusually rowdy season. And there he was, Ross Chastain, snatching the coveted P5 from the #8 driver from under his nose with a heartbreaking spin. Busch was certainly frustrated to say the least to have to settle for this disappointing P12. However, he would be happy to know that an unlikely contender would take his revenge in his place, in the very last turns.

Fans noticed a day later how we Chase Elliott donned the “karma” cape for an old-fashioned bump-and-run on Chastain. Without Elliott, Chastain might even have been able to finish on the podium. But that might be too much of a stretch as a P3 Chris Buescher was a bit ahead of the duo, bumping and punching for a P4 position that should have been pretty easy to claim, in theory.

Did Chase Elliott bring “Justice” to Ross Chastain after the Atlanta disaster?

A lot of movement happened around the top 5 during this final white flag lap. To start, Martin Truex Jr. ran out of fuel battling Kyle Larson for the win and finishing P27. Michael McDowellI took advantage of MTJ’s misfortunes to score his first-ever career runner-up finish in the Cup Series. Chris Buescher completed P3 and marked his name on a podium for the third time in 2024 at Sonoma. And of course, Kyle Busch completely missed the Top 5, thanks to Melon Man’s slightly too aggressive advance into fifth place.

But if MTJ fell out of contention and Busch was already out of the picture, that would mean Chastain would mathematically have to finish in P4, right? Fake. Because Larson’s Hendrick teammate, Chase Elliott, came back from 7th and passed the No. 1 Trackhouse Chevrolet in the very last corner. And as if that wasn’t enough, Elliott brushed Chastain aside, with an elbow to the rear bumper to finish where he left the grid – P4.

Some would say that Chastain really needed the top 5, and that a one-place differential doesn’t make much difference. However, Chase is already headed to the playoffs thanks to a win at Texas earlier this season. On the other hand, Chastain only finished in the top five for the second time in 2024 at Sonoma. As it stands, the Melon Man is only 73 points above the cut line. Interestingly, his Mexican teammate Daniel Suarez is also committed to the playoffs thanks to this unforgettable three-way triumph in Atlanta.

That same weekend, Chastain finished P7 but made headlines for wrecking hometown hero Chase Elliott in the closing stages of the Ambetter Health 400 Atlanta race. Many claimed ‘karma’ struck Elliott for his teammate That of William Byron timely block on the Melon Man the previous weekend at Daytona, which put the latter out of contention for his first victory at the season-opening crown jewel.

Either way, this weekend it seems fans turned on Ross Chastain, hailing Chase Elliott as the unlikely hero of Kyle Busch leaving Sonoma.

Fans think it’s Kyle Busch’s revenge

While FOX’s cameras focused on Kyle Larson’s victory celebration with his crew chief, NASCAR shared the exciting final lap action captured from Chase Elliott’s No. 9 car on its social media channels official, a day later. The video shows a traditional bump-and-run performed on the T onto Ross Chastain’s rear bumper at Turn 11.

This led many fans to believe that Elliott had acted as a hand of vengeance against the perpetrator of Kyle Busch’s disappointments by recklessly driving in front of his own car. Something akin to the “Batman” of NASCAR, as this fan rightly commented, Bro saw what he did to Kyle and didn’t say anything on his watch. Others were of the opinion “Chastain can hardly complain when he did much worse to overtake Busch.”

The punishment, if you can even call it that, was well executed, and this comment explains the reasons for this feeling well: Karma caught Ross after dropping Busch a few corners earlier. However, many have called for realism on the issue, saying Hunting I saw Ross using Kyle, he was like I’m going to get mine now.

But one fan raised a glaring grievance, writing: “It’s quite sad we see this a day later. I’m sure all the fans would have loved this.
