For students looking for help with almost any errand imaginable, just call Joni Mosby.

Mosby, owner of Just Call Joni, a concierge service dedicated to serving Ohio State students, has spent the past two years doing everything from student laundry to airport pickup and drop-off.

Mosby said students and parents who need help can find her phone number and email address website and Facebook page. From there, the parent and student – both of whom must be involved to receive the requested service – are added to a group text with Mosby to arrange the request.

Mosby said she started the company in October 2022 as a way to safely transport Ohio State’s female students to and from the airport and/or doctor appointments. She said she noticed a need to provide a safer experience for female students and thought, “I could just do it myself.”

Since then, Mosby said she has seen the business take off, starting with just 20 customers and now serving nearly 300 students of all genders. She said the business has also expanded with the help of her assistant Michaela McCreavy, along with Ohio State students who help during busier weeks, such as move-in and move-in weeks.

“I think the first year, for Thanksgiving, we served about 36 kids, and last year we probably served about 130 kids to and from the airport for Thanksgiving,” Mosby said.

Mosby said in 2023, she also expanded the services offered to include moving and storage support for out-of-state students — another need she noticed within the Ohio State community.

“We’ll pack your stuff for you, put it in a moving truck, take it with us, store it for the summer and wherever you move next year, we (will) bring it to you,” Mosby said.

Mosby said this “see a need, add a service” attitude has stuck with her over the past two years, leading her to offer almost every service a student could hope for, including help with laundry, transportation, grocery shopping and on custom birthday cakes. and delivery of gift and food baskets.

“You can see how much the parents really care about their children and that it is such a relief for the parents to know that there is an adult checking on their child, controlling their child and presenting a special gift to their student,” said Mosby.

Mosby said that unlike other delivery and transportation services like DoorDash and Uber, Just Call Joni offers a more loving and motherly approach. The goal, she says, is to care for her clients as if they were her own children.

“I got a text very early on about a mother who was very distraught over her daughter, who had had a breakup last night and was very upset most of the night,” Mosby said. “So I was able to put together a very nice gift for her and deliver it to her, and it gave the mother so much peace of mind.”

Illana Margolis, mother of an Ohio State sophomore, said Mosby ran errands for her daughter when she was sick — a simple task that she said brought her so much relief as a concerned parent.

“She was always great to my daughter and as a mother it was nice to have another mother watching (my) child,” Margolis said. “I felt like she was happy to do absolutely anything for us, which was so nice.”

Darryl Reichbart, mother of an Ohio State freshman, said it was Mosby’s willingness to help, especially in emergency situations, that led her to trust Mosby with her son.

“He had to go to the emergency room twice because of a swollen tonsil,” Reichbart said. “It was (Mosby) on the spot, within a second.”

Reichbart, a resident of Orlando, Florida, said it’s a relief to know someone like Mosby is around to care for her son because she lives so far from campus.

“She has been a godsend,” Reichbart said. “She is like a second mother.”

Mosby said in recent weeks she also helps students who are voting. She said one particular mother had difficulty helping her daughter mail in her ballot, prompting her to ask Mosby — who personally delivered the ballot — for help.

Mosby said another student realized she did not have the correct ID, which led to the student’s mother contacting Mosby and asking her if she could send her child’s ID and passport to her overnight and could have them taken to her dorm room, where Mosby went. said she would like to help.

“As soon as FedEx delivered it, I put it in my car and drove to campus, and within an hour or two it was in her hands,” Mosby said.

Mosby said as students’ needs continue to grow, so will her services.

“It just keeps growing,” Mosby said. “If I see a need, I just continue to add services and grow the business more or less organically, and so far so good.”
