Oxford University exams canceled after Palestine protests

The Oxford Action for Palestine group, which has organized encampments since May 6, said this morning’s protest was not aligned with its group.

A member of the public, who wished to remain anonymous, said around six protesters had disrupted students who were taking their end-of-year exams at the East Writing School building at the High Street exam schools.

The person on site told Oxford Mail that protesters “hung the flag and chanted out the window” but were then “subdued.”

THE Oxford student The newspaper reported a number of student arrests.

Thames Valley Police have been contacted for comment.

A spokesperson for Oxford University said the action “goes beyond the bounds of acceptable protest”.

The spokesperson said: “The university is disappointed at this morning’s occupation of exam schools and the absolutely unacceptable disruption caused to our students.

“We are putting contingency plans in place to ensure that all students will have the opportunity to take their exams with as little disruption as possible.

“It is not clear who represents the occupation group, as they claim to act without the knowledge of the OA4P camps.

“While the University supports the right to peaceful protest within the law and our rules, this action clearly exceeds the bounds of acceptable protest.”

Oxford Action For Palestine, which is not linked to today’s action, told the Oxford Mail the group would release a statement soon.
