NU Regents eyes Verizon Tower at Memorial Stadium, new food vendor for Nebraska athletes

You may find it easier to make that social media post from a Husker football game thanks to a planned effort to improve phone coverage at Memorial Stadium.

On June 20, the University of Nebraska Board of Trustees will consider allowing Verizon to build a shared cell tower for all cell phone providers at Memorial Stadium, with the goal of providing 95 percent coverage. throughout the stadium to supporters and staff on match day.

The tower, to be built by August 2025, would cost up to $30 million, with other carriers negotiating service agreements with Verizon to use the space. All providers would also pay rent to the athletic department.

The regents will also consider a five-year contract with FLIK International to serve as the food provider for the new Performance Nutrition Center within the Osborne Legacy Complex.

FLIK, a New York-based company, operates in hundreds of conference centers, hotels, sports and entertainment facilities and other businesses in 35 states. This includes providing training table services last year to nine NFL teams as well as teams in the NBA, WNBA and Major League Baseball.

FLIK will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and will also provide athletes with cooking demonstrations, incidental meals and nutritional enhancements. It will also provide recruiting meals, catering services for donor special events, catering services for team banquets and meet other special event food needs for athletics.

FLIK will earn a fee based on a percentage of total sales.
