Your next stop? Small New Jersey Town Named One of America’s Top 15

There are several thousand small towns in the United States.

So it’s a big deal to be named one of the top 15 in the entire country.

A New Jersey municipality received this distinction on June 11, when Smithsonian Magazine released the latest edition of its annual editorial, which listed the 15 best small towns to visit in 2024.

The New Jersey winner shares that honor with small towns all over the map, including a Philadelphia suburb:

⚫ Aspen, Colorado

⚫ Beaufort, South Carolina

⚫Arco, Idaho

⚫ Floyd, Virginia

⚫ Silver City, New Mexico

⚫ Kennett Square Pennsylvania,

Best Small Town in New Jersey

Glassboro, home of Rowan University and approximately 24,000 residents, is the only New Jersey name to appear in the Smithsonian Magazine article.

The magazine credits Gloucester County Township for its various establishments, such as the Heritage Glass Museum. Downtown Rowan Boulevard offers a range of shops and restaurants, as well as escape rooms and Cookie Munchers for your sweet tooth.

“Sharing this year as one of the many incredible and vibrant small towns across the country in Smithsonian Magazine is not only a win for Glassboro, but a win for all of New Jersey,” said Jeff Vasser, executive director of the New Jersey. Travel and Tourism Division.

The article pays most attention to the much-anticipated 2024 opening of a fossil park and museum in Rowan.

“The 65-acre fossil park is the only site east of the Mississippi where you can actively excavate fossilized remains from the Late Cretaceous period, which ended 66 million years ago, and its ecological structure of 44,000 square feet is everything a world-class museum should be,” the article states.

The Visit South Jersey group expects more travelers to come to the area from “all parts of the world” when the park/museum opens.
