CC-144 Challenger flyover over TD Place canceled due to weather conditions

CC-144 Challenger flyover over TD Place canceled due to weather conditions

Due to bad weather, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CC-144 Challenger will not fly over TD Place on Thursday evening.

The flyover was planned just as the Ottawa Redblacks were scheduled to open the season.

The surrounding area of Ottawa is under a tornado watch issued by Environment Canada Thursday morning.

Meteorologists said “conditions are favorable” for severe thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes. They said wind gusts could reach 70 mph with hail the size of a nickel to a dollar and heavy rain would be possible.

The plane was scheduled to fly directly over the field heading west at 7:33 p.m., with a return flyover at approximately 7:38 p.m.

The ARC said these flyovers are carefully planned and closely controlled for public safety and are dependent on weather and flight conditions.
