Oklahoma man gets 25 years in prison after being caught with more than 10 pounds of meth in northwest Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE — An Oklahoma man was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years in federal prison after he was arrested in possession of more than 10 pounds of methamphetamine, nearly 2,000 fentanyl pills and five guns near Harrison.

Allen Ray Thompson, 32, of Lawton, Oklahoma, pleaded guilty Feb. 21 to possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl with intent to distribute, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Arkansas State Police in rural Boone County arrested Thompson on Aug. 3 for failure to display a proper vehicle tag. During the traffic stop, a police dog alerted to the possibility of drugs inside the vehicle, prompting a search that revealed 10.8 pounds of methamphetamine, 1,988 fentanyl pills and five guns, one of which was shot. stolen, the statement said. Thompson was a previously convicted felon and was not allowed to possess a firearm.

A subsequent search of Thompson’s cell phone text messages revealed that he was delivering the controlled substances to Harrison-area customers who had already paid Thompson through an Internet-based peer-to-peer money transfer platform, according to the press release.

U.S. District Judge Timothy L. Brooks in Fayetteville sentenced Thompson Wednesday to 25 years in prison, a $2,000 fine and five years of supervised release.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Arkansas 14th Judicial District Drug Task Force, and the Arkansas State Police conducted the investigation of this case.

Assistant United States Attorney Brandon Carter prosecuted the case.
