Live updates on the Michael Madigan trial: Testimony continues in the federal corruption trial of the former Illinois House speaker

The prosecutor got to the heart of the bribery with a ComEd VP on Tuesday.

Fidel Marquez testified that ComEd CEO Anne Pramaggiore instructed him to have three of Madigan’s 13th Ward superintendents paid by ComEd for not doing any work.

ComEd made payments to the lobbyists through a legitimate lobbyist named Jay Doherty.

One of the lobbyists, Ed Moody, had previously been paid through Mike McClain’s law firm.

Most questions were about payments.

“I didn’t expect them to do any work because they were hired as a favor to Michael Madigan,” Marquez said.

He also talked about Pramaggiore, who often expressed how powerful Madigan was.

She wanted to make sure Madigan supported ComEd’s agenda, he said.

After the passage of FEJA, Marquez was given a list of items to complete. Marquez said he knew the “requests came from Michael Madigan.”

This involved the hiring of certain people and employment contracts.

Marquez also noticed that Pramaggiore and Madigan had a close relationship, and that one of her sons worked in the Illinois delegation led by Tim Mapes.

Pramaggiore also traveled to Turkey as part of the Illinois economic delegation.

After his retirement, McClain continued to be included in ComEd’s development strategy and communications plans.

Marquez said McClain had a close relationship with Madigan and was often tasked with his assignments.

Marquez often heard the speaker referred to as “our friend” or “him” or “himself.”

Court will resume with Marquez on Wednesday.
