Chelsea: Zecira Musovic ‘not happy’ to be on bench in WSL

Chelsea goalkeeper Zecira Musovic is “not happy” about being on the bench for their Women’s Super League matches but says she “sees the bigger picture”.

Musovic, 28, is behind England’s Hannah Hampton in the pecking order but believes she is improving as a goalkeeper in training and enjoys competition.

“I’m not happy if I don’t play. You want to play. You want to participate. You want to help your team,” Musovic told BBC Radio London.

“It is a position that requires a lot of mental strength, not to let that one decision affect your well-being or your performance.

“I’m someone who likes to see the bigger pictures, so yes, there is a decision for one specific game, but there is a bigger development and I want to keep improving.

“I like a challenge. I like it when something is really put to the test. I come to work every day and I can’t relax. On the day I relax, I don’t have a chance to play.”

Chelsea are one point below Manchester City in the WSL table and are preparing for the Women’s Champions League matches against Celtic this month.

They are moving from their regular Kingsmeadow home to Stamford Bridge for European matches and Musovic says she is seeing “improvements” in the growing fan base there.

“I love Kingsmeadow, I love the fans there, I love the atmosphere they create together, but I do think we are ready for something bigger,” she added.

“When we played at Stamford Bridge a few years ago there were echoes of silence because there weren’t that many people there.

“But I see an improvement. I see more fans coming to support us and we feel that support. We can continue to grow together.”
