Jeevan Pramaan Patra | Digital Life Certificate Scam Calls: How to Stay Safe

State Bank of India (SBI) has warned retirees about the increasing scam calls related to the digital life certificate process. As part of the ongoing #StaySafewithSBI initiative, the bank has asked retirees to remain cautious and protect their personal details from fraudsters.

SBI has emphasized that these calls are fraudulent and pensioners should not engage in such communications.

Digital Life Certificates (DLC) are a crucial part of the pension payout process. Annually, they must confirm the existence of the retiree so that pension benefits can continue in a timely manner.

Pensioners can file their DLC online through various platforms including SBI’s official website.

SBI has also highlighted the official channels to report suspicious activities. “If you receive such calls or messages, please do not share your personal information. Report this immediately through the official portal at Sancharsaathi.gov.in or by calling 1930,” the bank said in its tweet.

Moreover, retirees can visit Cybercrime.gov.in to file financial fraud reports.

How to stay safe

  • Never share your personal or financial information over the phone, especially if the call was unsolicited.
  • Check all communications you receive through different channels.
  • Use the official website or mobile app to securely submit your Digital Life Certificate.
  • Report suspicious calls or messages immediately.

It should be noted that the government needs the entire central government retirees must submit a life certificate annually to continue receiving their pension benefits.

For retirees under the age of 80, the filing period opens on November 1 and closes on November 30.

If no life declaration has been submitted by the end of this period, pension benefits will be suspended from December.

The filing period started earlier, on October 1, for retirees aged 80 and over, giving them extra time to complete the process.
