York visitor shocked by ‘severely overgrown’ River Ouse path

The walk from Clifton through the town and up to the Millennium Bridge, mainly by the Ouse, was notable for overgrown and weed-filled vegetation, dirty footpaths and general untidy areas.

Only at Rowntree Park was there evidence of work to alleviate this problem through Community Payback, but the park was a general disgrace.

The council needs to up its game if York is not to descend to the normal state we see in our towns and thus lose the special status it has held for many in the past.
