Family of injured New Mexican musician in Rome raising money through silent auction

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The family of Leo Maes, a New Mexico musician injured in Rome, is holding an auction to raise money to help him return to the United States.

The 73-year-old musician was on a family vacation in Rome when he collapsed. The fall left Maes with a serious spinal cord injury. The family is hosting a silent auction from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, June 14 at Old La Cocina in Espanola. The auction will feature items from local artists and vendors, gift cards and more. All proceeds from the auction will go toward Maes’ medical bills and the cost of the air ambulance flight from Rome to the University of New Mexico Hospital. The family also created a GoFundMe to raise money to cover expenses.
