Liverpool fans given rare behind-the-scenes access to the training ground with tours available

Liverpool fans were given a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at the club’s women’s training ground, AXA Melwood Training Centre.

Available on the club’s website to book tours, fans can now take a look at Melwood, which was the men’s training ground until the move to Kirkby in 2020. Supporters can explore the historic site of the interior and hear stories from years gone by.

The tour begins at Anfield before those involved take a coach to Melwood. Next comes a tour of the locker room, shoe rack, field viewing areas and gym. Fans can also have their photo taken in the original press room, where Jurgen Klopp held pre-match press conferences before moving to his new office a few miles away.

Part of the experience is learning how Bill Shankly put his Liverpool players through their paces back in the day and how that compares to Matt Beard’s modern, cutting-edge training methods for LFC Women. Fans can go pitchside and see where the LFC women prepare for matches, as well as enter the manager’s office, team dining room and their social areas.

Tours of the AXA Melwood Training Center are available on selected Saturdays or Sundays in June. This could make the perfect gift ahead of Father’s Day, which is this weekend in the UK.

Liverpool.com says: Melwood is an iconic location and it’s great news that the Reds women’s team has moved there. It was planned to lose him completely at some point before the club decided to buy him back and occupy him again. It was definitely the right decision to make.
