NYPD: Death of 1-month-old baby ruled a homicide on Staten Island’s South Shore

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The death of one-month-old Joseph Heben Jr. from Tottenville in July is being ruled a homicide by the medical examiner.

Police were called to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze around 7 a.m. on July 20, where hospital staff told officers that Heben was unconscious and unresponsive as he was taken by private transport to the medical facility, according to a statement from the Deputy Commissioner of the NYPD. of public information.

The baby was pronounced dead that Saturday and the Office of Chief Medical Examiner was tasked with determining the cause and manner of death.

No arrests have been made and the investigation continues, the police statement said.
