Poetry recital inspired by coronavirus from home

Goals

The objective of the action, as described by the Technical Committee on Culture, was to develop a short video consisting of ten self-recorded poems on the impact of COVID-19, by five poets from each community.

The Technical Committee on Culture reviewed poems reflecting the impact of COVID-19 and identified five poems from each community (a total of ten poems). The selected poems were then translated into three languages ​​(Greek, Turkish and English) by professional translators.

The poets recorded themselves reading their poems at home, further reflecting the impact of COVID-19 and the lockdown in Cyprus. Additionally, the technical committee co-chairs provided their self-recordings as an introduction to the video.

Results

The action contributed to improving the visibility of the Technical Committee for Culture and to the continuation of bi-community collaboration despite the difficult times the island is going through due to COVID-19. During the implementation phase, members of the technical committee were in close contact and collaboration to ensure the success of the project. Overall, this initiative contributed to strengthening cooperation and knowledge sharing between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot professional communities and to consolidating the capacity of the technical committee as an effective cross-community mechanism to identify, plan and implement projects and initiatives that promote mutual understanding and cooperation.
