Drivers will be offered free gas cap testing and replacement of leaking caps in Bowling Green on Monday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at BGSU Lot 13 near the football stadium.

Metro Toledo Council of Governments staff will perform rapid compression tests to ensure gas caps are properly sealed. Motorists with leaking caps will be able to receive a free replacement.

Visitors will have the chance to win an electric lawn mower.

TMACOG offers this service every summer to raise awareness about air quality and to replace defective gas caps that contribute to pollution through fuel vapor leaks.

If not sealed tightly, a loose cap could cost up to two tanks of gas each year.

Older vehicles are more likely to have a poorly sealed cap, but any vehicle could have a leak. A loose gas cap can trigger the check engine light, so if the light comes on randomly or right after filling, the cap may need to be replaced.
