Joe Biden suffers a shock poll in a state where Democrats have not lost in 20 years

President Joe Biden received negative polling news in a state the Democratic Party hasn’t lost in 20 years.

The incumbent and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is expected to face former President Donald Trump in November, after both received enough delegates in the presidential primaries. Polls have so far shown that the results of the 2020 White House rematch will be close, with the two men statistically tied or holding only a marginal lead in a number of surveys.

However, according to a corporate coefficient poll, Biden and Trump are now tied in Virginia, a state that has not supported a Republican for president since George W. Bush in 2004.

According to their survey of 851 likely voters, 41% would vote for Biden while 41% would vote for Trump. Another 12 percent are undecided and seven percent would vote for a third-party candidate like Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The survey was conducted between June 11 and 12. The margin of error is +/- 3.36 percent.

Its findings suggest Biden is losing state support. In 2020, he won Virginia with 54.15% of the vote and by a margin of 10.2%, the best performance for a Democratic presidential candidate since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944.

However, polling aggregator FiveThirtyEight, which ranks pollsters based on their historical track record and methodological transparency, gave it a rating of 1.1 stars out of three and gave it a transparency rating of 3.2 out of 10 , raising questions about the reliability of the poll.

News week contacted representatives for Biden and Trump via email outside of normal business hours for comment on this story.

Nonetheless, other polls also suggest Biden is losing state support. According to a Fox News survey released last week, Biden and Trump were tied with 48% of the vote. A Roanoke College poll in May also found the two men tied with 42 percent of the vote.

Talk to News week, Scott Lucas, professor of international politics at University College Dublin, said Virginia is one of eight states in play that could decide the outcome of the November election. However, he said that with five months remaining, the race was “a toss-up” at this point and the polls were “almost meaningless”.

Sarah Chamberlain, president of the Republican Main Street Partnership, a group that supports central-leaning House Republicans, said: the wall street journal:”I think Virginia can be a real possibility (for the Republicans).

“Northern Virginia is so Democratic, and that’s where the numbers are, so I’m not there yet,” about Trump’s victory. She added: “Team Trump is doing the right thing, and let’s see how this all plays out.” »

Biden and Trump will face off in the first of two debates scheduled for June 27 in Atlanta. The presidential election takes place on November 5.
