What we know about new ITV show Douglas is canceled

Former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat assembles an all-star cast to tackle the controversial world of social exclusion in ITV’s new comedy-drama Douglas is Canceled.

A near-constant threat in the world of social media and modern pop culture and a topic that has caused many people to reflect on its weight, value and lasting legacy, Cancel Culture is an issue that has been with us for some time now and an area that seems ripe for social inspection.

With Douglas is Canceled, Moffatt aims to examine the events that led the world to turn against a once-revered television personality and the fallout that ensues in the wake of the chaos.

Here’s everything we know about it.

Douglas is Canceled begins at 9pm on Thursday June 27 on ITV1 and continues each week in the same timeslot.

The show will consist of four episodes, all of which will be available on the channel’s streamer, ITVX, on its first day of launch.

A minute-long trailer for Douglas is Canceled was released just weeks before the miniseries debuted on ITV1.

In it, we meet Douglas Bellows, a famous news anchor whose world begins to fall apart after the world catches wind of a tasteless joke he made at a wedding.

Douglas is Canceled looks at the fickle world of cancel culture through the fictional account of a news anchor’s descent into social ostracism.

Set in the world of British television news, the show’s official synopsis sets the scene by saying: “National Treasure News presenter Douglas Bellowes tells sexist joke at a wedding: will his career survive?” -She ? And is anyone at home or in the office really on his side?

While his friends and colleagues are forced to take sides, the first trailer for the series suggests that those closest to him may not have Douglas’ best intentions at heart.

Meanwhile, the jury remains out on the real value of Douglas’ redemption.

Meanwhile, Moffatt reunites with his former Doctor Who companion, Karen Gillan, who plays Douglas’ co-star Madeline.

ER actor Alex Kingston plays Douglas’ wife Sheila, while Madeleine Power plays their daughter Claudia.

The cast also includes Nick Mohammed from Ted Lasso, Simon Russell Beale from The Death of Stalin and actor Ben Miles.
