According to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report released earlier this year, about 37.9 million Americans were living alone in 2022, an increase of 4.8 million, or 15 percent, from 2012. The report notes also that the proportion of adults living alone in one-person households has more than doubled since the 1960s, from 13 percent to more than 29 percent.
