Scott Snyder had some updates to share on Prime Video’s animated adaptation of his Image Comics comic book series from artist Jock and artist Jock Wytches.

With all the animation news coming out of the 2024 Annecy International Animation Festival this week, it seemed only fitting that we get an update on how things are going with the Prime Video animated adaptation of Writer’s Amazon Scott Snyder & artist SportyImage Comics comic book series Witches. In the June 14, 2024 edition of its Our best jacket Substack Newsletter (“Newsletter #185: The Big Lead-Up”), Snyder had a lot of good news to share. First, Snyder confirmed that the season 2 writers’ room is up and running and that they are “deep in” developing the second season. “But yeah, so we’re working on season two. It’s kind of like ‘Aliens’ to ‘Alien.’ There’s more Witches, bigger Witches, crazier Witches and without giving too much away, I think that this could become something really, really special and at least as good as the first season, which I already love.

Speaking of the first season, Snyder adjusted the series’ release schedule on Prime Video screens, noting that “the first season should premiere in late 25, maybe or even more likely in 26” due to the strike . Regardless of the release window, Snyder also noted that we should start to see the marketing push for the animated series kick off at some point next year. As for the series, Snyder revealed that he had the chance to check out the first test animation. – as a “test trailer”. And from what Snyder has seen, it seems fans of the graphic novel’s visuals have plenty of reasons to be excited. “So we had our first test animation, our first trailer, basically, like our test trailer. . And it looks awesome. It basically looks like Jock’s art, but animated. So it’s got all of Matt Hollingsworth’s great painted colors, his splatter effects, all that kind of stuff. So it feels like the book is coming to life, and I can’t wait for you to see it,” Snyder added.

Wytches is “today’s horror”: Scott Snyder

In its December 1, 2023, Our best jacket Newsletter Substack (“Newsletter #167: Season’s Greetings!”), Snyder does an impressive job of explaining how a writers’ room works by taking us step by step through how the one he runs shapes the season. At the end of his newsletter, Snyder offered some very interesting comparisons to give us a better idea of the mood and tone we can expect from the animated series.

“It’s just something we haven’t seen on TV.” Snyder shared, “It’s kind of extreme horror – real Clive Barker, John Carpenter, Paul Verhoeven too, like really corporeal horror mixed with really strong emotion, like really, I think, and I hope, resonant, substantial character work So it has these extremes like “Invincible” where it’s hyper-violent, hyper-scary because that’s the horror here, but also hyper-emotional, and there are things. that are really important to us.”

The showrunner continued: “So this will be a really big turning point for animation because there’s nothing like it on television. It’s less of a genre than some of the other horror stuff that I love, like I like ‘Castlevania’ and ‘Castlevania: Nocturne.’ But it’s less of a genre. It’s modern-day horror, so it’s just something we haven’t seen on TV, and visually it’s going to mimic the art a lot. Jock, so it’s really unique.”
