Free virtual equine conference series offered this summer

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer a free virtual summer equine lecture series to anyone who owns or cares for equines. This year’s theme is Pasture and Systems Management for Healthier Horses. Extension of the UMaine photo cooperative

ORONO — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension invites anyone who owns or cares for equines to participate in the Summer Equine Virtual Lecture Series.

Three events, all starting at 6 p.m., will take place on the following days:

Thursday, July 11: Alicia Harlov of Humble Hoof Rehabilitation Center and podcast will explain how movement and nutrition benefit horse health.

Wednesday, August 7: Dr. Jaime Garzon, UMaine Extension forage specialist, will discuss hay and forage testing, pasture maintenance and weed management.

Friday, September 13: Elissa Ballman will review various insect pests, ways to mitigate insects, and new research.

This year’s theme is Pasture and Systems Management for Healthier Horses. Topics include rotational grazing, track systems, pasture health and forage management, nutrition and equine pest control, according to a news release with Sue Baez with the Extension.
