Vladimir Putin’s ceasefire ultimatum compared to Hitler’s offer that started World War II – World News

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky categorically rejected Vladimir Putin’s “ultimatum”, which he said was nothing new, and compared it to offers made by Adolf Hitler in 1939 that ultimately sparked a world war.

Ukraine’s president has suggested Vladimir Putin is determined to dominate the world, comparing him to Adolf Hitler after the warlord offered him an unreasonable “ultimatum” in return for a ceasefire.

Putin promised yesterday to “immediately” order a ceasefire across Ukraine and begin negotiations on the condition that kyiv withdraws its troops from each of the four regions annexed by the Kremlin in 2022. Another condition was that kyiv abandons its plan to join its Western allies. NATO allies.

Volodymyr Zelensky rejected what he called an ultimatum from Putin to cede more territory. This comes as many world leaders – but not Moscow – have been invited to Switzerland to plan our first steps towards peace in Ukraine.

It also coincided with a meeting of leaders of the Group of Seven major industrialized nations in Italy and after the United States and Ukraine signed a 10-year security agreement this week that Russian officials, including Putin, have denounced as “null and void”.

Zelensky, who is also in Italy for the G7 meeting, said the proposal was not new and came in the form of an “ultimatum”, comparing it to Adolf Hitler’s actions to seizing territories which led to World War II. It is unclear exactly what promises Zelensky was referring to, but in 1939, Nazi Germany issued a 16-point list of demands to Poland, which was read out on the radio as a peace proposal. Britain and France declared war on Poland two days after the Nazi invasion.

“What Putin demands is to give them part of our territories, occupied and unoccupied, speaking of several regions of our country,” Zelensky said.

Speaking to Sky Italia, he said: “(The offer is) exactly the sort of thing Hitler would say. He would say ‘Give me part of the Czech Republic and the war will end’, but he was just lying because afterwards “It’s Poland. “Give me part of Poland”, then there was the occupation of all of Europe… This is Nazism and we cannot trust Putin because he is on the same path. “

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called Putin’s plan “manipulative,” “absurd” and designed to “mislead the international community, undermine diplomatic efforts to achieve a just peace and divide the unity of the majority world around the objectives and principles of the Charter of the United Nations. “
