Patna students burn effigies in protest, demand cancellation of exams amid allegations

NEET Line: Amid the controversy surrounding irregularities in the NEET UG exam, students in Patna staged a protest on Saturday, calling for cancellation of the exam. A large group of students gathered in the streets, where they burned effigies and tires to express their discontent. Police officers were present and used moderate force to disperse the gathering. Students have raised concerns about unfairness and alleged problems with the exam process. Students highlighted issues such as leaked quizzes and problems with how exams were graded. They demand fair exams that give everyone an equal chance. The protest aimed to push officials to address these concerns and ensure future reviews are fair.

The National Testing Agency, NTA, had earlier decided to reconduct the NEET UG 2024 exam on June 23, 2024 for 1,563 students who faced delays in the original exam scheduled on May 5, 2024. The Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Friday demanded an investigation into the alleged irregularities in the NEET UG 2024 exams and said the entire exam should be canceled.

The NEET UG 2024 exam has been surrounded by controversies due to accusations of question paper leaks and other issues. The National Testing Agency has been accused of failing to ensure the fairness of the exam, with numerous reports of cheating and misconduct. To make matters worse, the NTA awarded extra marks to 1,563 students who had lost time during the exam, but the Supreme Court later canceled the extra marks. This led to student protests and lawsuits, many of which called for the exam to be canceled and a full investigation.
