Joel Kinnaman says he tried not to speak for two months while filming ‘Silent Night’

Kinnaman remembers telling his fiancée Kelly Gale, “Look, this is going to be difficult for our relationship. I’m not going to talk during the entire shoot, nor with you either. We will therefore have no communication.

Since Gale was understandably hesitant about the idea, the couple decided to consult their relationship coach to find a way to handle it all. When Fallon asked Kinnaman if the relationship coach thought it was a good idea, the actor replied with a laugh, “No.”

But he said his fiancée eventually came back and told him, “This is a sacrifice I will make.” And, you know, we’ll find a way to make it happen.

After sorting out the logistics, Kinnaman said he was officially going to stop talking once he arrived in Mexico City to begin filming. But shortly after landing, the actor realized he “felt a little lonely” since he didn’t know anyone there and decided to call Gale.

Kinnaman noted that his fiancée was very confused during the phone call, telling him, “You’re supposed to stay silent for two whole months.” ” But The slaughter The actor decided to wait a little longer before embarking on the immersive acting approach, saying he would stop talking on his first day of filming.

“Then the first day of filming starts and I get in the car. Super quiet the whole car ride,” Kinnaman recalls. “And then I walk into the makeup trailer and everyone is hanging out and talking, and I’m sitting there in the makeup trailer.”

He quickly realized that he wasn’t going to last six weeks without any verbal communication and decided to abandon the methodical approach.

“I had a really intense silent car ride to prepare for. The car ride was basically the whole thing, you know? So that loaded me up with enough silence that I needed for the rest of the shoot,” Kinnaman joked.

Silent night follows a grieving father, recovering from an injury that cost him his voice, as he exacts long-awaited revenge on Christmas Eve after his young son is killed in crossfire between warring gangs.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 1.
