WhatsApp introduces voice message transcription feature with language options

WhatsApp introduces voice message transcription feature with language options

WhatsApp is working on a new feature allowing users to transcribe their voice messages directly to their phone. Initially seen in a beta update for WhatsApp on iPhone, there are signs that it could soon be coming to Android as well.

According to a report by WABetainfo, users will have to download an additional 150 MB of data to use this feature.

It uses advanced voice recognition technology that works locally on the user’s device and keeps messages end-to-end encrypted.

Once the data is downloaded, users can read their voice messages in text form.

This feature could be particularly useful in situations where playing a voice message out loud is impractical.

Another report from WABetainfo, referring to WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.24.13.8, mentions that WhatsApp is further refining the feature.

Users will have the option to choose a language for transcriptions.

Currently, there are options like Hindi, English, Russian, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish.

After choosing a language, users will be prompted to download another data package to enable the transcription process.

Although these features have been spotted in various beta versions by WABetainfo, WhatsApp is yet to officially launch them.

Users will have to wait for the official rollout to start using the voicemail transcription feature.
