Monroe County cop rescues woman from train tracks

A Monroe County sheriff’s deputy pulled a woman to safety from the railroad tracks Tuesday, officials said.

The 67-year-old woman lay across the railroad tracks on Alban Road near South Telegraph Road in Monroe Township on Tuesday in an apparent suicide attempt, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Emergency services sent officers to the area around 2:04 p.m

According to the affidavit, Deputy Alec Preadmore saw the railroad gates lower and saw a southbound train speeding toward the woman.

Preadmore got the woman to safety before the train came through.

Emergency workers took the woman to a hospital for further medical treatment.

A total of 1,482 people died by suicide in 2021, according to a 2023 annual report from the Michigan Suicide Prevention Commission. Of these deaths, 80% of suicides were male and 55% of the total suicides involved firearms.
