Video: Kecia Lewis hopes to inspire stars of the future with Tony Win 2024

This woman is on fire! Kecia Lewis received the 2024 Tony for Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for her portrayal of Miss Liza Jane in Hell’s Kitchen. Watch Lewis react to his victory in the video above.

“I’m trying to understand everything,” Lewis says. “I’m not trying to express any feeling in it, so what happens to me is just joy. It’s just pure joy that has everything to do with standing still, d ‘being me and the people who say ‘Attagirl’… .The reward is a little stout black girl somewhere who wants to get that one day, who sees me and says, “You know what, I can do it, this lady did it, I can do it.”

This is Lewis’ first Tony win and nomination. She made her Broadway debut in the original production of Dream girls in 1981, and is the first black actress to win an award in this category since Renée Elise Goldsberry for Hamilton in 2016.
