It’s hard to say; after all, most people have become cynical about politicians and the promises they make (and later break) during their campaigns. We don’t yet know whether the next Trump administration will keep the promises it made on the way to the White House, or will only keep the promises it wants to keep and ignore the rest.

If the new administration chooses to support US tech companies in the fight against what Republicans could see as the overreach of the EU’s ‘deep state’, then the next time Europe decides to take a few billion from Cupertino pack, it might not be that easy.

What happens when the gloves are off?

While it is understandable that Europe is desperate to blunt foreign giants in the technology sector in a strategic effort to support the growth of its own players in that field, it is possible that this plan will fail. After all, as the events in Valencia (Spain) suggest, Europe has other problems.
