Xizang’s former Communist Party chief caught in corruption trap

The head of the Culture, Data and Historical Studies Committee of China’s top political advisory body is being investigated for corruption, authorities said.

Wu Yingjie is the first former Communist Party chief of Xizang Autonomous Region to be investigated for corruption since the country’s “reform and opening-up” began in the late 1970s.

The 67-year-old is being investigated for “serious violations of discipline and the law”, according to a statement issued by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection on Sunday. The phrase is a common euphemism for corruption.
