Steven Moffat Slams Cancel Culture Ahead of ‘Douglas Is Canceled’ Release

Steven Moffat expresses anger at cancel culture

Steven Moffat recently expressed his anger at cancel culture ahead of the release of the upcoming ITV drama. Douglas is canceled.

The series, which originally revolves around a newsreader whose life goes awry following his nasty prank during a private wedding ceremony, is set to debut on the same platform on June 27.

Moffat, known for his work alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman on notable projects including Sherlockopened up about cancel culture over the centuries.

Addressed exclusively to Sunday hourshe claimed: “(Cancel culture) is thousands of years old. Socrates was canceled, Jesus of Nazareth was canceled…and we’re all hypocrites.”

Explaining his stance on the subject, Moffat stressed that the annulment process happens to the best of people.

He continued: “We are outraged when someone who thinks like us is canceled, but we are perfectly happy to cancel someone else.”

“But cancellation only works on people who are capable of shame and want to be well regarded. In other words, it really only works on people who are good enough.”

Additionally, the actor said that the mechanism does not work on people of low virtue.

“It’s a smart bomb that can only eliminate people who at least aspire to virtue: you can’t cancel Hitler, you can’t cancel Donald Trump – you can’t, and they don’t care,” he concluded.
