Jets rejected huge trade offer during draft

In April, the Jets traded down one spot with the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the draft to the No. 11 selection where they picked tackle Olu Fashanu out of Penn State.

It turns out that wasn’t the only trade offer they got in the first round.

The NFL posted a video on Friday that shows a discussion between Jets general manager Joe Douglas and Rams general manager Les Snead. The offer from Los Angeles included the No. 19 overall pick, No. 52 pick, and No. 99 pick in exchange for the Jets’ No. 11 and No. 185 picks.

The Jets instead did business with the Vikings, moving down one spot sending Minnesota a sixth-round pick in exchange for a fourth-rounder and fifth-rounder.

The belief was that the Rams would use the No. 10 pick to select tight end Brock Bowers out of Georgia. He ended up falling to No. 13 where he was picked by the Las Vegas Raiders.

Fashanu was the second tackle off the board, after Notre Dame’s Joe Alt who went at No. 5 overall to the Chargers. He adds depth to a Jets offensive line that recently added veterans Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses.
