Prepare for the next generation of PDF: Adobe 'reinvents' Acrobat with Firefly AI, image generation and more

Creating and editing PDFs will become a smarter, more intuitive process than ever before thanks to an AI-enhanced update for Adobe Acrobat.

One of the best PDF editors and reading tools on the market, the iconic software is getting a boost of intelligence via the company’s Firefly AI platform which it claims will make the tool more effective and efficient to use .

At the top of the list are new improvements, including a greater ability to work with a wide range of other document types, including Word, PowerPoint, text files and more, which will hopefully end past issues with PDFs.

The upgrade also gives Reader and Acrobat users the tools to create and edit images in PDFs using simple text prompts, which the company says makes it the first PDF application to offer generative image capabilities.

This includes the new Generate Image menu, which allows users to add entirely new visuals into a document to give it that extra edge during presentations or meetings.

There are also a range of new customization options in the new Edit Image suite, such as generative fill, background removal, erasing and cropping, to help you make the images in your documents a much-needed refresh, whether it’s removing backgrounds, adding new images, or deleting objects. entirely.

All of this is powered by Adobe’s Firefly Image 3 template, which will also provide a range of new tools in the Acrobat AI assistant on Reader and Acrobat. This includes allowing customers to ask questions, get information, and create draft content from information not only from PDF file collections, but also from other document types for the first time.

The company is also strengthening its meeting transcription tools, which will now feature enhanced write-ups including “generative summaries” covering the main topics, key points and actions to be taken during a meeting.

All new tools will be available soon, with Adobe offering free access to all new Acrobat AI Assistant features from June 18-28.
