Three shootings in six hours; 18 year old injured

ANTIOCH – Gunfire sent an 18-year-old to a hospital and also struck a vehicle during a six-hour violent spree in an area that suffer from it Earlier this year, police said.

The 18-year-old went to the hospital without an ambulance and remained in critical but stable condition Tuesday, according to a statement from Antioch Police Lt. Matthew Koch. This person is expected to survive.

That shooting happened around 12:40 p.m. Koch said police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Sycamore Drive and Peppertree Way and found evidence of the shooting in the 2100 block of Peppertree Way. The victim arrived at a hospital while officers investigated the shooting.

Koch said an investigation at the scene revealed that the person was at the scene when the gunfire occurred.

The location of the shooting is known as the Sycamore corridor and has been the scene of many shootings since October. The corridor was the central location during a stretch in which eight shootings, including one, took place in a span of five days in September killed a 20-year-old Antioch man.

Two more shootings occurred around 6:20 p.m. Koch said these shootings appear to be related to a rolling gun battle.

Officers initially responded to reports of shots fired on Sycamore Drive and L Street and found evidence of a shooting on the roadway between L Street and Peppertree Way, Koch said. He added that a vehicle had also overturned and crashed in the Sycamore Square parking lot in an attempt to avoid the gunfire.

While officers investigated that scene, police received reports of additional gunfire on Auto Center Drive near Century Boulevard. Evidence of a shooting also existed at that location, and Koch said one person said at least one bullet struck a vehicle.

Koch said police believe the two later shootings were related. Police have made no arrests and identified no suspects.
