Have you ever considered porn-inspired vaginal surgery? If you’re a Gen Z, there’s a good chance!

New research has revealed more than half a million Australians have had – or considered – custom vaginal surgery. The latest trend is due to mainstream pornography and social media. Learn more about the popular procedure below. Does this sound like something you might be interested in?

Have you considered porn-inspired vaginal surgery?

The cosmetic procedure known as labiaplasty is now one of the fastest growing procedures among young people in Australia and around the world, according to the New York Post. What is this? Basically, it involves the removal or modification of tissue from the labia, which are the folds of skin on either side of a person’s vaginal opening, according to the New York Post.

Pornography and social media have given people unrealistic body standards and now people are struggling to keep up. They see a vagina in porn and start to worry that theirs doesn’t look like that and take steps to fix it. Even if it was completely normal at the start! Just as we have seen unrealistic beauty standards regarding our faces and bodies, the same thing can happen with our genitals.

A new study called Real bodies: understanding and celebrating the diversity of lips surveyed 1,030 girls, women and gender diverse people aged 18 to 50 about their attitudes towards their own genitals. About a quarter of those surveyed reported feeling anxious or unhappy with the appearance of their lips. Meanwhile, 35 percent reported associating negative words with their lips like “weird,” “disgusting” or “ugly,” according to the New York Post.

Today, more people than ever are considering (and getting) this procedure. It’s hard to compete with what we see on social media and in porn, but we have to remember that what we see online and on TV doesn’t always reflect reality. What do you think? Have you thought about doing it or would you?

Cort Freeman was born and raised in metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School’s class clown of 2009 13 years after graduation. A completely normal thing that happens. That’s thanks to his time spent as an intern at Comedy Central and a social media correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done stand-up and sit-down comedy across the country. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home listening to his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also completely uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So basically, anything and everything.
