Gayle King Stunned J6 Hasn’t Rejected More Trump Voters

Long time journalist Gayle King was shocked when he heard that Donald Trump’s Past behavior has not turned away a larger portion of voters.

Trump was declared winner above vice president Kamala Harris early Wednesday morning. As it became clear that the former president would likely return to the White House in January 2025, the CBS election panel discussed how Trump pulled off one of the most unlikely comebacks in the history of American politics.

CBSs Robert Costa said he overestimated the impact of Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

“I’ll show some self-awareness here,” Costa said. “I spent a year of my life digging for January 6th. Based on my reporting, I believe this was a very serious moment in American history. You had a president of the United States pressure his party and his vice president to overturn the election. Working with Bob Woodwardwe reported that the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff believed President Trump was in serious mental decline. It threatened to abuse the military in its final days in a manner somewhat similar to Nixon’s concerns in August ’74, but far worse in the eyes of a million others.

“January 6 – for Congressman Cheney, for others who studied the January 6 committee – was this explosion in American democracy; but as a reporter, I also have to admit that I took this seriously based on my reporting, when I was campaigning in 2024 and 2022, when I talked to Republican voters, centrist voters, Democratic voters — even though Democrats had a slightly different view: many voters did not view January 6, 2021 as a serious moment in American democracy. And that’s why many Republican voters don’t focus on the issue of character and conduct.”

King wondered how that was even possible.

“How is that possible, Bob, when you look at those photos?” she asked Costa. “I think this is what a lot of people struggle with. You look at January 6th – he characterized it as a protest of love, he characterized it as patriots – and yet you’re right when you say that people didn’t see it that way. How is that possible?”
