Council to consider zoning change to support home-based businesses

The Vanderhoof District is considering proceeding without a public hearing on a zoning change to allow a home-based business to operate more freely.

The Vanderhoof District is considering proceeding without a public hearing on a zoning change to allow a home-based business to operate more freely.
The proposal, which will be considered at the council’s June 24 regular meeting, seeks to rezone a specific property one block south of the highway. 16, at the corner of Fraser Avenue and 2nd Street East, to allow a home-based business as a primary use, with a residence as a secondary use, or from Highway C-2 Commercial to C-1 Retail Commercial.
This amendment is consistent with the city’s Official Community Plan (OCP), which designates the property as primary commercial. Because the proposal complies with the OCP and is not within the Agricultural Land Reserve, a public hearing is not required under the Local Government Act.
However, the district issued a public notice inviting residents to consider the proposed change in the next agenda, which will be posted on its website by June 20.
