All-rounders Andile Phehlukwayo and Corbin Bosch put up an impressive fight for the Momentum Multiply Titans against the DP World Lions as they thumped their side to 239-6 at the close of play on day two of their CSA 4-Day Series match at DP World Wanderers on Wednesday.

The Titans are still behind the Lions score of 316 all out in the first innings by 77 runs, but they are in a much better position than they were at the start of the post-tea session, thanks to Phehlukwayo and Bosch both of whom brought up a well-deserved half-century just before. closing.

Phehlukwayo ended the day unbeaten with 53 off 98 balls (7×4; 1×6) and Bosch with 55 off 76 (10×4), while opening batsman Joshua van Heerde also contributed a gritty half-century (50 off 114 balls, 10×4) .

After tea, the Titans continued at 103-5, with Van Heerde and Phehlukwayo sharing a 29-run sixth-wicket stand.

Van Heerde managed to reach fifty, but fell almost immediately – caught by Lions captain Dominic Hendricks on Tshepo Moreki’s bowling – leaving them in big trouble at 132-6.

But that left Bosch in trouble and along with Phehlukwayo, they began to revive the Titans’ innings with an impressive unbeaten seventh-wicket partnership of 107 runs.

Both batters turned the strike well and put away the bad balls as they took their side past the 150-run and 200-run marks before reaching the close in a decent position.

They hope to get started in the morning session of day three.

WICKET SLAVE

Earlier, the Titans bowled out the Lions in the morning session before reaching lunch at 31-0 in a decent position, only to implode in a disastrous early afternoon session in which they lost five wickets.

In the first over after the lunch break, opener Neil Brand (26) looked to pick up where he left off, hitting Lutho Sipamla for two boundaries, but the bowler took revenge as he trapped the Titans captain LBW, leading to a collapse of four borders. wickets for 17 runs.

Keegan Petersen (4) was also caught LBW by Sipamla as he tried to leave a ball which nicked back in and crashed into his pads.

Dewald Brevis (5) had a rush of blood to his head and got stuck at square leg as he tried to pull Moreki back, while Jhedli van Briesies (4) was caught behind by keeper Connor Esterhuizen off Delano Potgieter’s bowling, who saw them crash. 56-4.

Van Heerde, who had been watching the carnage from the other end, finally got a willing partner in Rivaldo Moonsamy (22) and steadied the ship with a 47-run fifth-wicket partnership.

But as they approached the tea break, Codi Yusuf got one past Moonsamy’s defense to bowl it, leaving Phehlukwayo and Van Heerde to defend their way to tea.

YUSUF COMES TO THE PARTY FOR LIONS

At the start of the day, the Lions resumed their first innings at 257-7 and would have been aiming for a score above 300, but it looked like they might not be able to do that again after their last recognized batsman, Esterhuizen (45). , was run out by Van Heerde leaving them at 281-8.

However, No. 9 batsman Yusuf put in an excellent lower-order shift, hitting seven fours and scoring 44 off 61 balls as he pushed his side past the 300-run mark.

He shared a 13-run ninth-wicket stand with Moreki (3), before the latter was trapped LBW by Tsepo Ndwandwa, and a 22-run last-wicket stand with Sipamla (6 not out), before Yusuf was the last man out. , which allowed Brevis to pass to wicketkeeper Moonsamy.

Bosch ended the innings as the Titans’ most successful bowler, taking 4-71, while Ndwandwa supported him well with 3-73.
