Neta's son and four others get jail term in '14 rape-kidnapping case in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Ten years after a 22-year-old student from Frazer Town in Bengaluru was kidnapped, molested and raped in a car, a city court this week sentenced five men to six months to 14 years in prison.
Nasir Hyderalias Nasir, was convicted kidnapping and rapefor which the Additional Civil and Sessions Judge imposed a prison sentence of 14 years on him on October 21. He is the son of a local politician.
His accomplice Shafeeq Ahmed was sentenced to ten years in prison, co-convicts Shoyeb and Hafeez were each given one year in prison, and Mohammed Ishq Soudh was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. The survivor and her boyfriend, son of a restaurateur from Bengaluru, were studying at a college in Mangaluru and were on holiday in Bengaluru in July 2014.
On the night of July 10, the duo went out to dinner with friends and the woman’s friend offered to drive her home. When they reached the area around midnight, the two spent some time in the car chatting. Around 12.15 pm a Skoda Fabia stopped next to the car. The occupants asked the survivor to get out of the car. Sensing danger, she tried to run into her apartment building, but was pulled back by the group and forced into their car.
Her male friend was also forced into the car. The car then drove from one place to another for an hour, during which time Nasir sexually assaulted the survivor. The car stopped on the side of a railway line, where the survivor’s friend was dragged out. Nasir then proceeded to rape the woman and asked her not to resist if she did not want her friend to be killed. Her ordeal lasted 15 minutes before the gang released her and the college friend.
