New Jersey man left 2 guns in his hotel room, now in prison for 16 years

A North Jersey man is going to prison for running a fentanyl manufacturing plant from a hotel room.

Jabar Evans of Jersey City, NJ, convicted

Federal authorities said late last year that Jabar Evans, 45, of Jersey City, was convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and of possession of a firearm in connection with drug trafficking charges.

On Monday, he was sentenced to 192 months, or 16 years in prison.

Expensive moving from a hotel room

Federal authorities say that in June 2021, Evans controlled a fentanyl manufacturing plant out of a Jersey City hotel room and that once there, he decided to move his operation from one room to a larger one. big.

In doing so, he accidentally left two firearms in the old room’s safe, which hotel staff discovered and turned over to law enforcement.

Cops arrived and arrested Evans in his new bedroom where they also found, both in plain sight and hidden in duffel bags on the ceiling, more than 12,000 fentanyl glassines, bags containing hundreds of grams of fentanyl uncut and methamphetamine, as well as drug packaging and manufacturing equipment. .

U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger thanked the FBI and Jersey City police for their work in this case.
