Jamie Lee Curtis’ message to mothers of trans children after the 2024 election

Stripped doesn’t describe how many Americans feel after the 2024 electionsespecially for parents who know what this means for the future of our children. The loss of bodily autonomy, protection of our planet, health and safety, and so many other issues that former president and convicted felon Donald Trump has threatened to destroy. For the parents of transgender children like Jamie Lee Curtisthe future is uncertain and scary – and she just shared a powerful message of encouragement for anyone feeling despair right now.

The Crazy Friday star, who is mother to transgender daughter Ruby, 28, and Annie, 37, with husband Christopher Guest, shared a postcard of an eagle holding an American flag and the words: “Your flag and my flag, the flag that flies above; The country where we work and live, the country we love.”

In the caption, she wrote a lengthy post detailing her feelings about the election, which marked a victory for Trump. “So the results are in. Many will celebrate and possibly even rejoice in their victory. Many will be stunned and saddened by the terrible feelings of loss. That’s the same outcome no matter who wins, because that’s what America and democracy look like. Always looked like this. So what does it mean?”

Curtis says the future holds “a certain return to a more restrictive, some fearful, draconian times.”

“Many fear that their rights will be obstructed and denied. Many minority groups and young people will be afraid. Gay and transgender people will be more afraid,” she continued. “We know that many women will now find it difficult to get the reproductive health care they need and deserve. For all those people, there will be people who will help you. Me, too.”

Tears flowed all morning, but Curtis’ words today are a little balm for the desperate soul. She is all our mothers, offering words of comfort and hope that we can then pass on to our children. And that is so, so necessary now.

Despite feelings of sadness, Curtis wants us to stay strong and “wake up and fight.” She continued: “Fight for women and our children and their future and fight against tyranny, one day at a time. One fight at a time. One protest at a time. That’s what it means to be American. That is what it has always meant and always will mean, regardless of the outcome.”

It’s so, so hard to keep fighting. It feels impossible to do that Finally the feeling that our country is making progress and moving past the bigotry and hatred, only to fall back into the nightmare reality that most Americans really don’t care about anything or anyone but themselves. Curtis acknowledges that it’s hard, and she encourages grace for ourselves.

“Be kind to people today. Be gentle with yourself today. Feel your feelings today, but most importantly…be an American today,” she concluded.

Many people expressed concern and fear for the future to Trump, who has done so anti-transgender attacks and fear-mongering part of his campaign, back in charge. “I am absolutely and truly terrified, not only for myself, but for those I love. “I can’t wrap my head around the rationale and thought processes that make this possible, and I feel like I’ve lost all faith in the future of this country,” one person said.

Someone else wrote: “Thanks for this. I had to read this. Mother of a trans adult and I am terrified for her, but I will never stop fighting to protect her.”

“We just hit the country’s reset button in the worst way possible. I’m ashamed of people,” someone else said. Another wrote: ‘This is such a nightmare. I’m tired of having to fight for our rights… especially when we already had them and they were taken away.”

The Halloween alum also shared a photo of Democrat Adam Schliff, who was elected to represent California in the U.S. Senate. “There is hope. He will be a strong voice in California and I believe in the future of our country. @repadamschiff,” she captioned the post.

On Election Day, Curtis shared this a photo from Vice President Kamala Harris, who praised her for running for the Democratic presidential nomination. “Whatever happens, I want to say personally, on behalf of all women and their daughters and granddaughters, sons and trans children and gay kids and EVERYONE EVERYWHERE all at once, we all want to say THANK YOU for participating in this race,” she wrote. “You have been a shining beacon of hope, possibility and promise, and that has given us all the hope, possibility and promise, and that is worth all the effort you put into your campaign. Thank you, Kamala. WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!”

Curtis has talked about it a lot combating climate changesupport women with addiction problemsAnd supporting transgender rights. We may have suffered a tremendous loss today, but we can follow Curtis’ example and keep fighting, keep having hope, and keep doing everything we can to protect the future generation.
