20 years later, Konami confirms fans’ suspicions that Metal Gear Solid 3’s Eva was voiced by The Little Mermaid

Well, here’s another mystery we can cross off the ‘unsolved’ list; 20 years later Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater‘s release, Konami has finally confirmed fans’ suspicions that Russian spy Eva was voiced by the same actor who played Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

The identity of Eva’s voice actor has long been a mystery Metal gear solid Three fans didn’t appear to be a real person at all, given the person listed in the game’s name – one Suzetta Miñet. And while the vocal similarities had led some members of the community to believe Miñet was actually a pseudonym for Ariel voice actor Jodi Benson (although she was far from the only suspect), it was never officially confirmed… until now.

In the newly released third part of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Legacy Series documentarycharting the history of the franchise, Benson finally confirmed her involvement in Metal Gear Solid 3, and shared a little more about how Suzetta Miñet came to be. “When we were shooting in 2003,” she explained, “the different projects that I’ve been involved in in my career were kind of family-oriented, kid-based, things like that. So it was basically (our director) Kris Zimmerman Salter; she sat me down a little and said maybe we should change your name.

“So she asked me, what was your dog’s name growing up,” Benson continued, “and I said Suzette Monet. So she said, you know what, let’s build on that. How about Suzetta? How about instead from Monet, the artist, we’re doing Miñet. And I thought: sounds like a deal.’

However, Benson – whose other roles include Thumbelina and Barbie in the Toy Story series – admits that some fans have still managed to troll her, even with the pseudonym. “Seven years ago, at various conventions where we meet and greet great fans,” she continued, “someone brought one of these beautiful games to my table and I said, ‘Why are you bringing that?’ and he said, ‘Because you’re in it.’ And I said, ‘You too know? Do you know my deep, dark secret?’. And he said, ‘Yes! I know,’ and I said, ‘Shh, keep it down!’

Confirmation of Benson’s role in Snake Eater comes as Konami continues its efforts to revive the Metal Gear Solid series after its creator Hideo Kojima‘S bitter departure from the publisher in 2015. Konami’s was launched last year less awesome Metal Gear Solid Master Collection: Part 1of Part 2 is yet to come. But first it will release its Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Delta, which one still has no release date despite the 2024 launch window.
