Lucas Oil Stadium Sensory Room Open During Events – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indianapolis Traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Lucas Oil Stadium is now home to a sensory room, making one of the city’s largest venues accessible to everyone.

The room was created by the nonprofit KultureCity, “the nation’s leading nonprofit for sensory accessibility and acceptance of people with invisible disabilities,” according to their site. KultureCity worked alongside the stadium and the Capital Improvement Board to make the venue possible.

Nestled near the southwest entrance to the stadium, the room transforms chaos into calm with sensory elements. The room features bubble walls, adjustable lighting, calming visuals, comfortable seating and Yogibo beanbags.

“This is all with the goal of giving guests the best possible experience and being able to attend events that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend,” association member Mike Rogers. The Lucas Oil Stadium Customer Service Team.

The hall is open during every event at the stadium and families are free to use it after registering with the hall attendant. They can also download the nonprofit’s app before the event to see all the features available.

“Each of these families was here for 15 or 20 minutes, and you can see the kids were calm when they came out, and so you can see it really works,” Rogers said.

Rogers says that in addition to the excitement the room brings professionally, it also has a personal impact.

His adult son is on the autism spectrum and would have benefited enormously from a sensory room at the stadium.

“We had Colts season tickets for a while and every time we came over we tried our best to give him headphones etc so he could take over the environment but it always didn’t work not,” Rogers said.
“We knew the best thing to have would have been a piece like this.”

The stadium also offers safe sensory bags, which include a weighted blanket, fidget toys, headphones and verbal cue cards.

Participants needing a bag can pick one up from customer service.
