Sherman City Manager Announces Retirement After Ten Years

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – Robby Hefton has announced he is retiring after 26 years working for Sherman and 10 years as city manager.

“There are so many incredible things happening in our city and I am grateful and honored to have been appointed to serve and lead you all into these times,” Hefton wrote in a statement. “I am so proud of the work we have accomplished as a city.”

Hefton also wrote that he is working with the City Council to create a plan to find a new city manager. Newly elected Mayor Shawn Teamann will lead a committee to find Hefton’s replacement.

Current Sherman Mayor David Plyler said Hefton has big shoes to fill.

“I don’t know anyone who could have done what Robby did,” Plyler said. “It’s just incredible what we were able to achieve with him.”

Hefton played a key role in bringing Texas Instruments to town and paving the way for growth.

“One thing I admire about Robby is that we never said, no, we can’t do it,” Plyler said, “we did it.”

The approximately $30 million technology center is a historic project not only for Sherman, but for the entire state.

“TI is the largest economic development project in Texas history,” Plyler said.

Plyer and Hefton started in their positions months apart.

“I am forever grateful to Robby and his expertise in spreadsheets and his knowledge of all things City of Sherman,” Plyler said. “He and his staff have made it so easy to be mayor.”

With Mayor Plyler stepping down in January, the two will also leave their positions around the same time.

This will mark a new era of leadership for Sherman.

“Sherman is going to continue to be great, it’s going to continue to grow, it’s going to continue to thrive,” Plyler said, “more people are going to want to come here and it’s just a great time to be in Sherman.”

Hefton’s last day has not yet been decided, but it will be in early 2025.

News 12 will continue to monitor who will be the next Sherman City Manager.
