Harris won Shelby County and lost the national race

Vice President Kamala Harris Shelby County carried Shelby County in the presidential race, although she did not, as expected, carry the state of Tennessee. The Associated Press called the nationwide race for former President Donald J. Trump early in the hours of Nov. 6.

Initially that was expected voters should expect delays in knowing who the next president of the United States will be.

According to unofficial results from the Shelby County Election Commission, Trump received about 36% of the vote in Shelby County, while Harris received about 60% of the vote.

Due to the expected close race between Harris and Trump and the time it takes to count the ballots, expect it to take some time before a winner is determined.

In 2020, it took four days to determine a winner.

Among a number of other factors, major battleground states like North Carolina are in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene which complicates matters even further. Other key states like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin don’t start processing absentee and mail-in ballots until Election Day, slowing down the counting process.
