Carrington among 2024 NBA draft invitees

PITTSBURG – Pitt Guard Carlton Carrington is one of 24 invited to the green room for the 2024 NBA Draft after a stellar debut season for the Panthers. Carrington is expected to be selected in the first round of the draft on Wednesday, June 26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Carrington was the only NCAA freshman to average at least 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last season, while helping the Panthers to an overall record of 22-11 and a fourth place finish in the ACC. He finished his freshman year at Pitt averaging 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, while making 65 three-pointers. Carrington scored in double figures 23 times, including five games with 20 or more points scored. He opened his career with a triple-double (18 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) against NC A&T and closed the season with a 24-point effort against No. 4 North Carolina in the tournament semifinals. Seven of the last eight freshmen averaging at least 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game have been selected in the top 15 of their respective NBA drafts. Each of the last nine freshmen to post those numbers became first-round NBA picks, with seven of the nine being selected among the first six picks in the draft.

Pitt has had 28 NBA draft picks, including eight first-round selections, in program history. The head coach Jeff Capel coached 27 draft picks throughout his coaching career, including 18 first-round selections and 10 lottery picks. Carrington is expected to become the first pick straight out of Pitt since 2014 and the first pick during Capel’s tenure with the Panthers.
