Steve Gelbs Interrupted by Fan in Hilarious SNY Mets TV Spot

SNY Mets reporter Steve Gelbs is known to make food-related detours from time to time during a broadcast, and that was the case Wednesday night during the Mets’ 5-3 loss to the Rangers.

And this time, it included an unsuspecting guest during its broadcast.

During the second inning, SNY cameras zoomed in on Gelbs sitting in a chair in the stands at Globe Life Stadium as he munched on a brisket sandwich.

The field reporter was unaware at first that he was being filmed as broadcasters Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez mocked Gelbs from the comfort of the broadcast booth.

“What I want to see is if Steve can bite his chest and practice his play-by-play at the same time,” Cohen said jokingly before it appeared that Gelbs had become aware of what was being said at his subject.

“I would watch that,” Cohen added.

That’s when Gelbs, who was still chewing, jumped on his microphone and asked what Cohen had just said as an unassuming woman walked past the SNY reporter at the same time.

This is when the situation really went off the rails, as the woman thought Gelbs was talking to her, not realizing he was live on television at the time and was actually talking to its distribution partners.

She stopped right in front of Gelbs, who had to explain to her what was happening.

“No, no, not (you). No, I’m on TV right now – so are you,” Gelbs told the woman, who quickly tried to hide from the camera.

“The look of shock on his face,” Cohen said as Hernandez laughed at the peculiar situation.

“And Steve makes friends everywhere he goes and freaks out Texans.”

Gelbs later commented on the whole question of X, writing: “Distribute television time to the masses”.

The Mets, whose seven-game winning streak was snapped, are off Thursday before opening a three-game series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Friday.
