Charles Spencer reveals exciting realization amid shock divorce from Lady Karen

Charles Spencer took to social media with an exciting announcement on Wednesday.

The Ninth Earl Spencer took to his X account to announce that his headline-making book, A Very Private School, was chosen by NPR as one of its summer reads. The book bravely details the abuse Charles suffered as a child while attending Maidwell Prep School.

“Thrilled and truly grateful to see that my childhood memoir A Very Private School was chosen by @NPR as one of their summer reads,” he wrote.

Fans were delighted by the news, with one replying: “It was a great read although it was quite hard to hold back the tears at times!” A second added: “It must have been extremely difficult for you to come back and make all the details publicly known, but you have so much support from us. Your book totally deserves to be here.”

The exciting news came just weeks after Charles shocked fans when he revealed he and his wife, Lady Karen Spencer, were divorcing after 13 years of marriage.

The couple currently live at Althorp House, the stately home which has been in Charles’s family since 1508.

Charles first shared the news with the Mail On Sunday. He told the publication: “It’s immensely sad. I just want to dedicate myself to all my children and my grandchildren, and I wish Karen all the best in the future.”

The couple, married in 2011, share a daughter, Charlotte Diana, 12.

Charles and Karen’s marriage is believed to have broken down in recent years over the strain of the Earl’s memoir, but despite their problems, Karen has been exceptionally supportive of Charles and shared a glowing message about his success when he shared the cover of the courageous memoir for the first time. .

She wrote: “When he first shared the cover image publicly, Karen reposted it on her Instagram account, commenting: “My husband Charles wrote a book about his experience at the boarding school he attended. sent at the age of 8. It’s called “A Very Private School” comes out in March, but you can pre-order it now. As a mother, this photo of him, aged 8, about to leave his home breaks my heart.”

Karen continued, “I can’t even begin to express how proud I am of him for writing this book. It was hard to even watch him write it. Relive it to write it and connect with his contemporaries who shared the experience and lived through their trauma made these 5 years very difficult, but it was worth it.

“It’s a story that needs to be told, and there’s no one better to tell it. His story-writing brain, obsessed with details and facts, his ability to put all the madness into sending children at 8 years old in a (historical) book context, and her achingly beautiful writing combine so wonderfully to make this difficult subject absolutely fascinating…”

In addition to Charlotte, Charles is the father of Lady Kitty Spencer, twins Eliza and Amelia Spencer and Louis Spencer, Viscount Althorp, with his ex-wife Victoria Aitkin. Charles is also the father of Edmund and Lara, whom he shares with his second wife Caroline Freud.
