“We are hurt…why is CM remaining silent?” »: Tejashwi Yadav on Patna High Court order rejecting 65% quota | Latest news India

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday questioned Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after the Patna high court struck down the state government’s increase in quota to 65 per cent. “We are hurt and earlier suspected that the BJP would try to end reservation. We have already said this during the elections that the BJP people were against reservation. You must know that when we conducted the caste-based inquiry, the BJP members filed a PIL to try to stop it, but we ultimately won. I don’t understand why the CM is remaining silent on this,” Yadav told news agency PTI. A division bench headed by Chief Justice K Vinod Chandran passed the order on a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of legislations brought by the state government in November last year.

“Will the Bihar government move the Supreme Court? ” : Congress

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also questioned the Bihar government over the Patna High Court order. “The Patna High Court has just struck down a law passed by the Bihar Assembly last year which provided 65% reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes in the state government jobs and educational institutions. The High Court held that this exceeded the 50 per cent cap set by the Supreme Court,” the Congress leader said on X.

“Will the Bihar government now immediately appeal to the Supreme Court? Will the NDA government at the Center put all its weight and seriousness behind this call? Will Parliament have the opportunity to discuss the matter at the earliest? he added.(With contributions from the agency)
