A clumsy dump truck which left letters with its address in discarded rubbish has been ordered to fork out more than £1,000.

Alexandru Sava, from Maidstone, was prosecuted after two separate incidents on Whitstable Road, Herne Bay.

Canterbury City Council environment officers launched an investigation after the waste – mainly black bin bags – was left between May 31 and June 22 last year.

They linked Sava to the mess after letters and envelopes with his address were found in the dump, but he ignored all requests for help with investigations.

The case went to court and when he initially pleaded not guilty by mail, the matter was set down for trial.

In his absence, the trial proceeded and he was found guilty.

The 35-year-old was fined £440, with a surcharge of £176 and prosecution costs of £500, making a total of £1,116.

Canterbury City Council’s Director of People and Places said: “We take fly-tipping in our district very seriously and will vigorously pursue offenders wherever we can.

“The public also has its role to play. If you ask someone to take your waste, please check that they are an approved waste carrier by visiting the Environment Agency website and make sure you ask for a receipt containing company details.

“Failing to do so could result in you being fined if your waste is in a place it shouldn’t be. »
