Why Below Deck Med’s Elena Dubaich was ‘shocked’ by the chef

Under the Mediterranean Bridge star Elena Dubaich I had a few choice words for the boss Jono Shillingford regarding his snafu of serving cold eggs to charter guests. And not just any guests either. But to Captain Sandy Yawn’s best friend, tennis superstar Gigi Fernandez.

Using tennis terminology, Jono totally double faulted his meals. First, he served an uninspired chicken breast, with a sponge cake and store-bought sorbet for dessert. Then he served cold eggs the next morning. It’s no wonder Elena has something to say about the situation.

Elena questions Jono’s ‘thought process’ and timing of Below Deck Med season 9

Jono and Elena started off on the wrong foot. During the first rental, guests indicated on their preference sheet that they wanted late night snacks. Unfortunately, Jono missed this moment and went to bed without leaving any food for the guests. Oops.

When Elena was asked for grilled cheese, nachos, and mac and cheese, she went straight to her closet to look for the perfect costume. No chef outfits were in his wardrobe, so the only reasonable option was to wake the chef.

According to Captain Sandy, you should never wake the chief. Well, Elena broke that unknown rule and woke Jono up not once, but twice to prepare the snacks. Jono laid down the law with a resounding “no”. Luckily for Elena, Gael Cameron was on hand to turn on the hot plate. After this debacle, things were tense between Elena and Jono.

On the next charter, Elena was not in charge of the cold egg breakfast. Which is lucky for her because who knows if she could have bitten her tongue as the tensions with Jono were already high. Elena later discovered, as did Aesha Scott, that Jono had left the eggs out long before they arrived at the table.

Both Elena and Aesha were on Watch What Happens Live to share their outrage about it with Andy Cohen.

Andy asked Elena, “With everything that happened between you and Jono during the first rental, what was your reaction to seeing him prepare eggs over an hour before serving them to the guests?”

Elena replied, “I was shocked to see that. For example, what is the thought process? Please explain to me. Because even if breakfast is at 8:30 a.m., you probably have to wait for the guests to wake up before preparing eggs. Jono covered the eggs with a cloth to keep in the heat. That counts, right?

Andy added: “And by the way, it doesn’t take much time to germinate the eggs.” A shocked Aesha intervened. She said: “I had no idea. This is the first time that i see this. Elena concluded, “Um, yeah. Mortifying. Indeed.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
